MAINTENANCE OF SPC CERTIFICATE CANDIDATE, CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA STATUS

Every 3 years, Certificate Candidate, Certificate and Diploma SPC members will be asked to present the following documentation in support of maintenance of Certificate Candidate, Certificate and Diploma status. The Education Committee will be responsible for administering the system. The Accreditation Officer of the Education Committee and the Director of Operations/SPC National Office will collect the documentation.

 
Certificate Candidate Criteria

Valid CPA registration number and valid SPC membership.

Proof of CPR certification at a minimum "Basic Rescuer" level within the last 12 months.

Proof of CPR certification as listed above for Certificate Candidate.

Continuing Education (over 3 years) - A minimum of 60 hours of post-graduate and/or volunteer clinic or field (on-site) work in sports physical therapy. Seventy-five (75) hours of the total 200 hours, must be on field (on-site) experience. (Include dates, events, hours.)

Practical Experience (over 3 years) - A minimum of 200 hours employment and/or volunteer clinic or field (on-site) work in sports physical therapy. Seventy-five(75) hours of the total 200 hours must be on field (on-site) experience. (Include dates, events, hours.)

 
Diploma Criteria

Valid CPA registration number and valid SPC membership.

Proof of CPR certification as listed above for Certificate Candidate.

Process
1.

Six months prior to the three year deadline for submission, all appropriate SPC Education System members will be sent a reminder to submit the required information on the specified date.

   
2.

The "Level Status Maintenance Form" must be completed and submitted, along with supporting documentation, to the Director of Operations/SPC National Office. The Director of Operations/SPC National Office will copy and send all forms and documentation to the SPC Credentials Officer for approval.

   
3.

Following the deadline, all members who have failed to submit the required information will be sent a notice indicating that they have 60 days within which to provide the documentation. (1998 ACM)

   
4.

Failure to comply will result in his/her post graduation education status being revoked.

   
5.

An appeal may be filed within 12 months. After 12 months, the candidate's status is permanently revoked (with no option for appeal) and reinstatement of his/her previous status may only be obtained through the existing SPC examination system.

 
Appeals/Extensions
1.

An appeal/request for extension may be filed within 12 months (of the original due date), which must include: a $50.00 (non-refundable) administrative fee, the "Level Status Maintenance Form" and the appropriate supporting documentation.

   
2.

The SPC Credentials Officer will review all information. A decision will be made by the SPC Credentials Office in consultation with the Education Committee and SPC Chair, when necessary, and the candidate will be informed of the decisioin within 6 weeks of receipt of the appeal.

   
3.

If the candidate is not satisfied with the decision, an appeal (with supporting documentation), must be made within 6 weeks of receipt of the appeal decision. The SPC Chairman will review the information and, in consultation with the SPC Executive Committee, will determine whether the appeal is upheld or reversed. The decision of the SPC Executive is final.
